How to customise the Discount Bot (Convo Module)

What does the Discount Bot do?

The Discount Bot (Convo Module) enables Maisie to offer your website visitors a discount coupon either as a reward for opting into your email or Messenger list or as an instant incentive to complete their purchase and prevent them abandoning their cart or checkout.

After opting in by providing an email address or connecting Facebook Messenger, customers will be sent an email or message containing their discount coupon.

Alternatively, you could ask Maisie to display the discount coupon to the customer immediately so they can use it during checkout. This can be a great option to encourage purchase when a customer is on or about to leave your cart page.

Please note that dynamic discount codes are not currently supported.

How do I customise the Discount Bot?

Follow the steps below to customise the Discount Bot for your store.

1. Visit the Convo Modules main screen using the navigation on the left of your Maisie Dashboard.

2. Click the edit icon on the right of the Discount Bot (Convo Module).

The Discount Bot Chatbot tab will be displayed.

3. Review all the elements of the convo. If you’d like to make any changes or additions hover over the item you’d like to change and click the edit or add icons accordingly. If you’re not familiar with how to do this please read our Maisie Chatbot Builder tutorial before continuing.

4. Click the Save button to save any changes before continuing.

5. Click the Messenger tab. This displays the message that will be sent to a customer who opts-in to receive their discount coupon in Messenger. The customer will receive a confirmation message with their coupon code in Messenger after connecting their Messenger account.

You’ll notice the following variables in the message:
{firstname} – your Messenger subscriber’s first name as provided by Facebook
{discount_value} – the unit amount of the discount in currency or percentage terms
{discount_type} – the type of discount – either $ or % off
{coupon_code} – the coupon code the customer can use to get the discount

You can customise all variables except {firstname} on the Settings tab (see 10. below).

6. Click the Save button to save any changes.

7. Click the Email tab. This displays the email that will be sent to a customer who opts-in to receive their discount coupon via email.

The email will be sent automatically via Maisie’s email service provider (unless you have connected your Klaviyo account to Maisie and set up a Klaviyo Flow) but the reply to address will be your email address. This reply to address will default to the email you used when signing up to Maisie but you may change it to another email address if you wish.

8. You may edit the email subject line and body text as you like. However, please note that we have inserted some code into this email so that it can auto-fill the following information for each email.
{discount_value} – the unit amount of the discount in currency or percentage terms
{discount_type} – the type of discount – either $ or % off
{coupon_code} – the coupon code the customer can use to get the discount
{store_name} – uses the name of your store on your e-commerce platform. You may delete this variable and type your own text.
{store_url} – your store’s website address from your e-commerce platform. You may delete this variable and type your own URL.

9. Click Save to save any changes.

10. Click the Settings tab. This allows you to enter the details of the discount coupon you’d like to send your customers.

11. Login to your e-commerce system and create a new coupon code to use with Maisie. We strongly advise you not to reuse existing coupon codes as we will not be able to track and report to you the performance of Maisie in generating leads and sales from these coupons.

12. Select the type of discount (fixed $ amount vs % off), enter the discount value in digits only. For example, the number 10 in the screenshot above means $10 off with the $ discount type radio button selected and means 10% off with the % discount type radio button selected.

13. Copy and paste into the Discount Code box the new coupon code you created in your e-commerce system.

14. Modify the message text in the first message in the preview window to make sure it matches your discount offer.

15. Click the Save button to save changes to the message.

16. Click the Save button in the top right of your screen to save all changes made to this Convo Module.

If you make changes to the the Message Text in this Convo Module please note that any Convo Flows already using the Discount Module will not be updated. However, any changes made to the Messenger message, email or coupon that is sent to the customer will be updated across all Convo Flows using the Discount Module. You can update your Convo Flows by deleting then reinserting your Discount Bot (Convo Module) as per these instructions.
